get the best start on your photography journey by learning the fun-damentals!
Now with 2 NEW workshops!
Starts 3 November
Landscapes. Travel.
Portraits. Lifestyle. Wildlife.
You're just 6-weeks and a few simple skills away from mastering the foundations of these creative genres.
And you can do it all ON AUTO MODE.
Yes, you read that right.
Because great photography comes from considered, creative composition. From learning to see the world, move your body, and use your environment to your advantage.
The camera is just the icing on the cake.
“Beats every other course I have ever done. Putting the focus on the PHOTOGRAPHY and the art and visuals, instead of the science and mechanics, flipped a switch in my brain. I learned and ACHIEVED more in this course than any workshops or courses I’ve done before. ”
Abigail B. (Australia)

The One Thing Method
The Photography Practice Club's secret sauce:
Your brain learns best when you teach it One Thing at a time.
In this course, you'll discover how to break down your favourite photos into bite-size skills you can master and then stack together.
Your weekly Practice Guides will make remembering each individual skill effortless, and combining them a breeze.
Now all you have to do is take yourself for a little stroll, camera in hand, and practice One Thing a day.
Anika Berkman
Photographer & Mentor
Founder of the Practice Photography Club
After 10-years as a professional photographer, I can confidently say that ‘traditional' photography education has a major problem: it's taught backwards.
As a former music teacher who specialised in an outrageously successful ‘song-first- theory-second’ approach, I KNOW there's a better way to learn.
Learning by taking your camera out and practicing real, tangible skills like moving your body, training your eye, familiarising yourself with light, shape, colour and more, is infinitely more effective than grappling with theory. Not to mention more fun!
Perfect exposure won't save a poorly composed photo. So why are we telling beginners to look at numbers on the screen instead of the world around them?
Get a beginner shooting with ease and then confidence, competence, and creativity will follow. Fast.
THEN you explore all the techy stuff. Because guess what? It's easy to understand now that you have some foundational context and experience under your belt.
This course will build that foundation for you, one easy practice session at a time.
Don't take my word for it…
Here's what Fun Foundations Round 1 students had to say:
N (NZ)
"Hands down the best and most digestible photography workshop for anyone starting out in their photography journey."
Abigail (AUS)
“Anika is the most supportive, positive and enthusiastic mentor you could ask for. This is an art form that often feels intimidating and has a steep learning curve… but not if you do this course. Everyone should learn photography this way!”
Jack (UK)
“This is the best photography course I've ever done. Anika's feedback on my photos was totally invaluable - I couldn't wait to submit my shots every week, knowing that I'd get a morale and ability boost every time.”
Scott (USA)
“This class was great and I learned SO much. I’ll never look at a scene through a viewfinder the same way again. Thank you for being an outstanding teacher and photo muse. I’m so happy I signed up!”
Virginia (Aus)
“Every question was answered and the extra curricular work you put in, (guides, critiquing photos, and editing in Lightroom) was next level. You didn’t just tick the box - there is genuine care about our progress, which you delighted in.”
Nicole (Aus)
“I feel like I have learned more these past 4-5 weeks than maybe in the last 8 years of on and off practice. I benefitted especially from your focus on composition.”

FAQ
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
Beginner, amateur, and hobbyist photographers who mostly shoot on auto.
DO I NEED AN EXPENSIVE CAMERA?
Nope! The skills you'll gain in Fun Foundations are applicable across all photography gear and niches, even your iphone.
I'M AN EXPERIENCED PHOTOGRAPHER, CAN I STILL ATTEND?
This is a beginner course, however if you need a refresher in composition, light, and the principles behind great landscape, portrait, and travel photos then there is a lot for you to gain here. You'll also learn the One Thing practice methodology, which you can apply to all photography skills down the line.
WHAT IF I MISS A LIVE SESSION?
Sessions will be recorded and available to re-watch for 1 month after the course finishes.
WILL THE COURSE COVER MANUAL MODE?
No. This short course is designed to give beginners all the skills they need to take great photos, and the context that sets you up to learn manual mode with ease.
DO I NEED AN ADOBE LIGHTROOM SUBSCRIPTION?
To get the most out of the course, especially the final week, it is recommended you at least download a free trial of Adobe Lightroom, Lightroom Classic, or your preferred photo editing software. Although every program is slightly different, the tools are the same across the board. We will cover the basics of photo editing and show you what a powerful tool it can be to enhance your photos.
DO I ACTUALLY HAVE TO PRACTICE?
Yes! Practice = progress. You can't get fit thinking about the gym, right? You have to actually get in there! The same applies for creative skills.
But don't worry, the course is designed to make practice super easy and accessible. 10 minutes a day is plenty, and you can break it into 5 minute chunks.
